California technocrats want to build a brand new, green California city in the Bay Area.
Would you move to California Forever, California? California Forever is the name of a project spearheaded by Jan Sramek and supported by a ___ of various influential tech CEOs, who want to build a city of 400,000 residents in Solano County. It's an ambitious idea. The suburban sprawl of LA and the greater Bay Area largely seems like a huge mistake in hindsight, especially in the Bay Area, which doesn't have the cultural _pull?_ to offset the _downsides_ of life for most California residents.
Now on a personal note, I find some beauty in the ugliness. Seeing the MENA style compounds in Alviso, next to a giant salt pond and the Amtrak line feels so shitty, but also very familiar. I can't really bring myself to hate it.
Back to California Forever. I have so many mixed feelings about this project. For one, I don't think the city will be named California Forever, or at least I hope not. An explanation of why that name sucks shouldn.t be necessary. The mock up art of the project also ___. I encourage you to visit the __link, gallery__ and judge for yourself before reading further. The architecture style is a bit modern for my taste. This type of mixed-use modern grey apartment building is already used way too much. There isn't any particular characteristic of the city that makes it stand out, and I've seen this new build style in pretty much every larger American city I've visited. However, I liked their vision for parks and open spaces.
The location is also a major downside. It's located in one of the hottest and windiest parts of the Bay Area and surrounded by crappy Vacaville and Farfield. There would have to be major upgrades to the road infrastructure surrounding the area.
